The gliders themselves, being made of balsa (noted for its light weight but not its durability), are not going to last forever and if you buy them for kids under the age of six, may only make it through a few flights. But look at it as a teachable moment to instruct them in how to gently treat toys. Or buy several sets and let them create some great memories along with a bunch of balsa wood splinters. :-) For older kids and those like me who are just kids at heart, these simple planes (takes maybe 2 minutes to assemble them, going slowly and carefully) will provide hours of amusement as you chase them laughing over the green grass. Enjoy!
(The four stars is because out of four planes, two fly well, one flies okay, and one was as noted above - a penguin among birds. So that's maybe a 60% success rating. Maybe Guillow will work to improve their quality control or packaging to match their customer service.)
So I thought of things from my childhood that really was fun and didn't cost a ton of money and balsa wood airplane glinder's came to mind so I checked on line and found these.
When I saw these at the price they were, it surprised me because the last time I bought one, they only cost me 10¢....:)a long, long, long time ago.
I received these in a very timely fashion, and the packaging was seemingly in good condition.
Once I open the package and took out the first airplane, I discovered that the main wing had a crack in it that went about 1/3 the way up the wing's length.
I read the return policy, but it seemed to be such a hassle so I used a little wood glue and clamp and the wing was good to go.
I assembled the plane and gave it to this little girl who is a tomboy of sorts, she doesn't take crap from any boy...lol
Her and her sister thought it was great; but 1 hour later they brought it back; the wooded pilot housing had broken in two, the vertical stabilizer tail wing had broken out the bodies frame.
I took the plane, pulled off the pilot wood housing pieces and ran a piece of packing tape on both sides trimming off the excess and use a little glue in it's slot to hold it in.
I glued up the tail wing into the body's frame and clamped it; I also glued the other wings into place.
For the price I paid, I feel this product should be of the quality of the one I had played with as a child back in the 50's & 60's and for only 10¢.
I would "not" purchase any further products of this type from this seller.
