Little Old Lady With Shovel Disrupts Internet In 2 Nations
Early last week, the whole of Armenia suffered an hours-long outage of its Internet. The culprit: a 75-year-old woman in neighboring Georgia. She was scavenging for copper when her shovel severed a fiber optic line — which put not just Armenia but also parts of Georgia offline. Police arrested the woman but released her on account of her age. Local media have dubbed her the "spade hacker."

Early last week, the whole of Armenia suffered an hours-long outage of its Internet. This was no high tech cyber warfare. The culprit was a 75-year-old woman in neighboring Georgia. She was scavenging for copper when her shovel cut a fiber optic line which put not just Armenia but parts of Georgia offline. Police arrested the woman but released her on account of her age. Local media have dubbed her the spade hacker.
