Very nice, considering buying another one
5 Stars
Very nice, considering buying another one
We have 5 cats, one of whom is in the neighborhood of 25 pounds... Affectionately known as Jabba the Cat. He's not a Main Coon or anything, he's just a big boned cat who is fat because he won't do anything but eat and sleep. All of the places he can fit into on this tree handle his weight easily. I doubt the upper, free-standing tiers could boast that, but he's so fat and lazy I"ve never seen him hit the 3rd tier, much less the upper ones.3 of our 4 average sized cats (all between 7 and 15 lbs)have been all over this thing, up and down and sideways and wrestling and fighting and falling off and it's handled their abuse smashingly well. So far the only signs its been used (after about 4 weeks of boisterous tomcat play) are that both of the fuzzy mice are missing their tails, but still attached to the rubber bands, and the roomba has torn up a little of the fabric at the floor level. Well, that and in spite of frequent vacuuming is usually liberally coated with 3 different colors of hair, all of which contrast nicely to the color of the material. The one non-shedder we have is almost the exact same color as the fabric used for the tree... Cruel irony eh?I have to say, whoever engineered this was an absolute genius. It is NOT heavy duty material, the cardboard tubes that the ropes are wrapped around to form scratching posts are probably tougher than any real wood you may find in this (its all particle board and cardboard) but once it was all assembled, the first tier actually supported my (VERY CAUTIOUSLY APPLIED) 230lbs. It's basically engineered in such a way as to support and strengthen itself, and at least in the short term has fared surprisingly well. It may be very tall, but its also wide based and hasn't toppled in spite of some pretty serious brawls over who gets the top cubby hole.I'm thrilled that I got something as functional as the 250$ 5' tree from Costco, and didn't have to drive 40 miles to get it. Half the cost, no gas and the FedEX guy even carried it into my living room for me.Highly recommended3-29-13 Edit. Its still going strong. Our largest two are over 20lbs now (one of them is over 25). The brawling over the cubby hole has expanded to the upper perch. So far nothing has worked loose or broken (well except the faux mice on rubber bands, they were torn off and lost long ago, but that was pretty much expected) I haven't had to tighten anything and it STILL hasn't fallen over yet. At this point I'm past disbelief with this unit. Its the highest traffic area in the house where the cats are concerned, and even the tallest perch supports a cat so big (yes, Jabba The Cat found the upper perches) his excess skin overlaps the edges all the way around.2-28-2015 Edit. Nearly Three years later. Cat tree is still here. The cubby holes are still hotly contested territory. Jabba the Cat is now pushing 30lbs. We tried putting his food on the 3rd tier to help with weight loss, but he either sleeps up there, or mooches from the neighbors. The rope wraps are showing fray from use, but are still firmly attached. Both ramps are intact. All platforms are intact. This cat tree has actually outlasted a considerably more expensive office chair that was purchased at around the same time.5-22-2016 Edit. Another year down. Still going strong. Wear hasn't progressed much further, though we lost Jabba the Cat and his Blonde brother; one to age and one to the negative side effects of feline obesity. We've had a couple more strays move in (though their combined weight is still a little under Jabba's) so we're at 4 indoor cats now. Our "newbies" are very young and boisterous, and in spite of its (for cat furniture) advanced old age; the tree is STILL holding strong. As its now become custom for me to buy and rehang catnip-stuffed furry mice, I actually drilled holes at their mount points to make it easier to purchase new elastic and hang them. One of the "newbies somehow managed to knock the lower ramp off, but I fixed that with a drill and a small carriage bolt.(Still) The most amazing purchase I've made on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars HAD IT ALMOST 4 YEARS NOW!!! havent tightened or anything...as good as when i got it and they♡it
Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2014
added photo.. took off tall towers...easy tp do.. you just use that top screw to secure on platform.. i did that because my basement apt girl hurt her leg so i decided that they all are 12 n husky.. over 15lb.. so its plenty high without them.. in fact for her and her sis i took the house off and made a little side piece by stapling a cardboard bumper.. it makes a really big roomy surface ... just put a big fluffy towel on it!.. its really very adjustable!!
Update.. its been almost 4 years.. still love it.. bought it again for our two new 11 yr old additions.. i like its width and shape especially for our older cats
.. as before i left off left two towers and saved as backups it looks better against window if they arent sticking up above curtain and the one on right they tend to go to box to get down.. the left one they were jumping down to pillow i have on floor. . So i kept that as backup..
although i had thought of screwing together with liquid nails.. since the other has survived my fatties for four years ( never even had to tighten) i didnt.. but its an option.. but people please dont let your dogs and kids on it or leaning all over it and then say its not sturdy!!..
If it had lasted a year at 99 it would have been worth it!.. this one was 70.. pure cat joy!!
------------------------------..
.all pieces came and were intact,,,assembly was easy But i did have trouble with 1st assembly piece,, when i screwed legs in they never got tight and i thought Oh No, this is what i was afraid of, almost sent it back, but I and the 3 kitties were so excited that i got pliers and was able to grab hold of the nuts that had come loose, and tighten the legs ( this did rip through the little carpet there & leave them exposed but i thought i will just hot glue some fabric over to smooth out....and in the end i just put a polar fleece blanket in there on top of them which is working fine)...the rest went pretty quick, and though i thought it was gonna be really flimsy, each piece made it sturdier...in the end i opted not to put the last 2 towers on because i put it in front of the slider & it was just too tall for that. It actually looks quite nice with just the right tower, and its plenty of height! I did put on ramps though no one really uses them, but unlike the tower we bought 15 yrs ago ( which was $120 and not as elaborate), this one, because it has platforms on left and right is much safer, whereas the old one we had to take it away because the only way down was to jump or kinda fall off because it was straight up like a totem pole....so though it was a little scary during assembly, the directions were super easy and I am very happy with it!! Great for the price!!! So if you buy it, even if you have a few hiccups like i did, work through them because its well worth it! It will move a little ( which they ALL do anyway, it is a tower after all!), but i dont think it would Ever tip...i have 2- 7 yr old chunkers (16 & 19 lb), and a 1.5 yr old little feral terror lol...the 19 pounder was the first to stuff his chunky but into that top tower, no problem!..they all have run at it full tilt, no prob...the 1 mouse only lasted 20 minutes but it was a well spent 20 minutes of cat joy, and its easy to attach toys to these things anyway, and though its very sturdy, i might use some liquid nails or something to reinforce so i wont have to re-tighten, if we ever move its movable the way it is, or if the price is like this, cheap enough to replace. Excellent for the price and GOOD exercise!! Hope this helps btw, when u use the 2 sided screws and u go too far in and it feels loose, dont panic, just unscrew it a little till its back on threads, better yet put it in only until the treads disappear and dont keep goin....and the colour is light beige but a yellow based beige compared to my carpet but it looks quite nice :) ...and ALL MY kitties are front declawed NO Problem at all!! BEEN 2 years now!!!!
HAVENT TIGHTENED IT OR ANYTHING, PLENTY STURDY...BEAUTIFUL PIECE THAT EVERYONE COMMENTS ON AND ALL 3 CATS ARE ON IT EVERY DAY, IF IT FELL APART TOMORROW, I'D IMMEDIATELY BUY ANOTHER!!! THEY LOVE TO RUN UP TO THE TOP OF THE "TOWER OF POWER" AS WE CALL IT EVERYTIME WE ARE NEAR IT...MOST EXERCISE THEY'VE EVER HAD!!...IN FRONT OF SLIDER SO THEY CAN ALL WATCH BIRDS AT FEEDER...DIDNT USE RAMPS AT FIRST BUT LEFT THEM TO MAKE IT MORE STURDY...NOW THEY USE THEM COMING DOWN...WILL UPDATE AGAIN....AND AS FAR AS PEOPLE SAYING CHEAPLY MADE...THEY ALL ARE...BUT THIS HAS BEEN PLENTY STURDY FOR MY DECLAWED CHUNKERS!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product for 12 year old cat
Reviewed in Singapore on January 12, 2020
I bought this for my 12 year old, 5kg cat who has never been exposed to cat trees in her life. It has been 3 days and she is sleeping in it now! Initially she was a bit hesitant and afraid, but I left cat treats around the entire cat tree for her to "hunt" at night, as well as brushing her only when she's on the cat tree. Now she's understanding that "good stuff" happens when she's atop the cat tree, haha!
I also removed the highest post and both the ladders so it gave my cat more space to lie around. I think it's good to monitor your cat and do some trial and error! I also shifted the tree to where she commonly claws her nails (the sofa lol) and she's more receptive to it.

The tree is quite sturdy, more sturdy than the pet shop ones I've seen (in Singapore). But of course it'll move very slightly when the cat jumps. There are 2 ladders; if the base isn't touching the ground and is "flappy", try to switch them around! Worked for me.
