Brian Zimmerman; Was a Mayor in Texas at Age 11
Brian Zimmerman, 24, the boy mayor of Crabb, Texas. The youth earned international fame in 1983 when citizens staged an unofficial election at his aunt’s Gonyo’s Grocery. He was only 11. Because the town of 225 was unincorporated, his title had to be honorary mayor. He attempted to incorporate Crabb, saying that would protect the town from annexation by other cities, but the effort failed. Zimmerman attended an international mayors’ conference in Paris and became the subject of a PBS special called “Lone Star Kid” in 1985. He shrugged off the attendant publicity, saying: “I’ve been in the press and on ‘Good Morning America.’ I’m not jumping up and down.” On Friday in Houston of a suspected heart attack.
