It is very important to make sure that you align your phone properly which takes a moment and if not done properly, can make you very dizzy in less than a moment.
The one thing I don't like about 3D is that it is too sensitive to the users movement. This depends on the app used and probably can be adjusted to make it easier but I haven't explored the settings at all. Watching videos I've made with the Samsung 3D camera (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B06XR9SGXL/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_1) is very difficult to make any fine detail out.
I am excited for what 3D will become but it does have a way to go.
This product is a LOT of fun and the price is incredible but is still a bit of a novelty right now
In checking reviews on other kits, I saw a lot of mixed reactions, so I am assuming the lenses in this are what you really are paying for. The seem to good, had some intense moments of feeling like I was right there in the room using my OnePlus One.
It's a tight fit for the OPO, especially with the thin rubber case I've got on it. Still, the top Velcro tab can sit halfway on to give it more room.
The cardboard is waxed, but still, there are paper particles that get on the lenses when you try to wipe them clean. Best you wipe them before using, too, they came with renegade Velcro loops that broke away and other particles. Use a lens cleaning cloth or some cotton, but no need for water or cleaner (cleaner can leave residue).
Ultimately, it works, but the nose bridge is raw and will cut in to your nose easily. It requires some padding which you have to find for yourself. There is an add-on strap available from Blisstime that includes some pads which I've yet to figure out the best way to attach. Also, there are several other VR headsets out there of varying quality for just a bit more. Either way, this is a good testing point, especially if you are inclined to modify things.
But look, you knew that when you bought them. Google Cardboard is a cheap, silly way to demo VR, and it does help illustrate the potential of the medium. It also shows how far we still have to go before decent-quality VR is actually affordable or practical for the average consumer.
You'll have fun with these for a day. If you feel like that's worth 25 bucks, knock yourself out.
You can get this working on steam if you install the iVRy app on your iphone and download and install the iVRy driver for steam (search the steam store for "iVRy Driver for SteamVR"). You'll want to buy the iVRy app on your phone, otherwise it switches to greyscale after five minutes. It's been a ton of fun! It doesn't have the ability to detect where your positioned (for example, leaning or bending), but you can look in all directions. Setup SteamVR for seated game play and you're good to go! War Robots has a fun free demo and BattleZone was on sale yesterday so I bought it.
Happy gaming!
I own an oculus cv1 but before I bought that I had this.
On the oculus you can move around and the view is wider and more immersive. Which is fantastic if you are serious about vr and will be using it often.
If you want to see what this vr thing is about and don't want to spend a few hundred dollars then buy this. You'll find new experiences and answers to questions you may have been asking yourself about vr. YouTube is a good resource for vr content and works well with this headset.
Still on the fence after reading that? Don't be, get off that fence and buy this. The only thing you might regret is not buying a more expensive set.
Draw back: I have to keep the sides open all the time because I wear glasses. But I guess even for other goggles you will have this problem too.
The cardboard smell is a little strong.
The nose part is rough. Might hurt if you use it for a long time.
